PALLY LEARMOND

Pally Learmond is a British photographer, who over the last 20 years has made his name as a specialist in documenting the unique world of Freeskiing. Working primarily as a commercial and expedition photographer for clients and brands within the sport,  he has photographed some of the worlds best snowsport athletes whilst traveling to some of the most remote mountain ranges of the world.

This dedication to time in the mountains, however, goes well beyond just capturing images for clients, and it is the unique moments of man and nature within this snowy landscape that really stand out in his personal photography.

A huge part of being an outdoor photographer is the willingness to put in the miles and having the skills to be safe and move well in the environment. It is very rare that you just point your camera out of the bedroom window and get a great shot!, Even with extensive planning and effort, the nature of the mountains means you can  often return home with nothing,…its like going hunting. A large part really is about arming yourself with as much knowledge as possible and putting yourself out in the environment and then be ready for anything!

Having learnt photography on traditional film (analogue) cameras, the only real progression I have taken is to now shoot digitally. I have not been tempted by using drones for example, which I’m sure would make life a lot easier the mountains, but I still prefer to move physically and under my own power to find the shots and angles I want.
