Solo show featuring works by Christoph Göttel

‘Face to Face’ is the latest exhibition at the Python Gallery in Erlenbach, Zürich. From April 3 until May 31, 2014 gallery owner Nicole Python will be showing the art of Christoph Göttel (b.1963).

The portraits from Göttel, who was born in Saarland, Germany and has lived and worked in Basel, Switzerland since 1990, are anything but classic. His portraits do not primarily show the subject, but uses them as a kind of representation. The portrayed situations are meant to be viewed with a wider perspective. At the same time, Göttel uses humour, even when it is not at first glance apparent. His roots as an artist are as a painter and in drafting. From these two techniques, he has progressively developed a unique style of collage. Christoph Göttel uses fragments from magazines, advertising, and photographs, to create a new picture with the addition of paint, colour, and tape. The artist enjoys presenting his work and discussing it with the public, and we are pleased to present the live performance with Christoph Göttel on May 7, 2014 in the Python Gallery, Dorfstrasse 2, 8703, Erlenbach. The preview of the ‘Face to Face’ exhibition will be on April 3, 2014 from 6:00 – 9:00pm.

Gallery owner, Nicole Python has said that ‘Christoph Göttels works are bold, both in the use of his medium – he mixes oil, pencil, India ink, and tape, and in his presentation.’ The artist uses either multiple colours or only black and white in his work. His works are reduced to the essential elements, whose interpretation he leaves completely to the viewer.
